Description	:	Harold William "Hallie" Gergen was born to John Peter "Jampe" Gergen and Katherine "Katie" Englebret on January 9, 1917, of Grafton, and passed away January 3, 2011, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva at the age of 93 years. He was one of six children in the family. Harold graduated in 1937 from Geneva High School. He attended Creighton University on a football scholarship. Harold returned to Geneva to farm and spent 65 years living southeast of Geneva doing what he did best--raising a family and raising crops. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, raising hogs, cattle and chickens.... He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, raising hogs, cattle and chickens. Later in life, he enjoyed assisting with youth activities of his children with horses, cattle and sheep. He took great pride in his children's accomplishments which without his assistance would not have been possible. He took great pride in the national winnings his children did more than his children did at the time. Hallie was married to R. Maxine Cook of Maryville, Mo., on August 9, 1947, and to them four children were born. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Geneva. He is preceded in death by his wife, Maxine; sons, Paul and Howard. He is survived by his son, William "Bill" E. Gergen and daughter, Virginia D. Gergen, and his therapy dog of six years, Happy. The two were inseparable. A graveside ceremony was held January 7 at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Geneva. The Nebraska Signal January 2011
