Description	:	Harriet Barber is the daughter of John Barber Sr. (1826-1910) and his wife Catherine (Hotchkiss) Barber (who are buried in the Bakertown Cemetery). --- In the 1855 census, they are living in Amsterdam, Montgomery Co. New York. --- In the 1860 census they are living in Buchanan township, Berrien County Michigan, (page 149, family # 1239). ------------------------- Her parents lived in Buchanan township, in 1867, when brother Elmer was born. Her parents lived in Weesaw township, Berrien County Michigan, in 1880. Her mother Catherine died in Weesaw township, Berrien County Michigan on April 12, 1897. After Catherine's death, Harriet's father John, lived with his son Lancing Barber in Weesaw twp. until his death in 1910. --- The death certificate... Oct. 8, 1959, in Berrien Co. MI. Buried: Oak Ridge Cemetery, (Section C, Lot 51). --- 4. William Henry Tomlinson. b. Oct. 27, 1874, in Michigan. m. Jane Emily Wilson, Nov. 21, 1900 in Huron County Michigan. d. 1916. Buried: Oak Ridge Cemetery, (Section A, Lot 94). --- 5. Mary Elizabeth Tomlinson (later known as Matie Burke). b. Feb. 19, 1877, in Buchanan, Berrien Co. Michigan. Her mother died 20 days after she was born. She was then raised by Moses and Dora Burke, who moved away from Buchanan (but they never adopted her). They then called her "Mattie" Burke. m. #1. Harry Randolph Adair April 1, 1895 in Big Rapids, Mecosta Co. Michigan. Four children: Neva Ester, Mildred Lillian, Clifford Nelson, and Rexford Earl Adair. m. #2. William Lowman Dec. 26, 1929 in South Bend, St. Joseph Co. Indiana. d. Oct. 15, 1940. Buried: Greenwood Cemetery, Grand Rapids, Kent Co. Michigan. ___________________________________ Harriet died just 20 days after the birth of Mary Elizabeth. ------------------------------ After Harriet died, Benjamin could not properly care for a tiny baby, and let Moses and Dora Burke take her. They left Buchanan, Michigan, and changed her name to "Matie" Burke, and raised her as their child (but they never adopted her). ---------------------------- Harriet died March 11, 1877 in Buchanan Township, Berrien Co. MI at the age of 28 years, 10 months and 4 days. -------------------------------- The parents of her husband Benjamin (Albert and Lucinda Tomlinson), are also buried in this cemetery, along with Benjamin's sister Elizabeth Tomlinson. --------------------------------- Harriet's husband Benjamin F. Tomlinson is buried in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Buchanan, Berrien Co.
