Description	:	Harriet A. Cartwright. On Sunday afternoon, August 10, 1913, at her home at Davis City, occurred the death of Miss Harriet A. Cartwright. For many months the deceased had been a great sufferer and her physical condition was such that no hopes had been entertained of her ultimate recovery, but it had been hoped that she might be spared to the family for a long time, but the final summons came without warning. On Sunday afternoon, August 10, 1913, at her home at Davis City, occurred the death of Miss Harriet A. Cartwright. For many months the deceased had been a great sufferer and her physical condition was such that no hopes had been entertained of her ultimate recovery, but it had been hoped that she might be spared to the family for a long time, but the final summons came without warning. She had been sitting on the front porch and was apparently at her ease when suddenly she pitched forward from her seat, and when loving hands lifted her form her spirit had fled. Miss Cartwright was born in Pike county, Ohio, August 1 2, 1845, she lacking just two days of being 68 years old. She was one of a family of ten children, all of whom with the father and mother, have preceded her to the better world, excepting two brothers, Frank P., of Davis City and W. T., of Garden Grove, the latter being in very poor health, and his recovery hopeless. With her parents she emigrated to Iowa and Decatur county in 1867 and the family located on the same farm wife the Cartwright family now resides and this place was the deceased's continuous residence. She underwent all the hardships and privations of the early days and was loved all through the community for her spirit of affection and neighborly goodness. After the death of her mother she was the one who took charge of the family, and on her shoulders fell the responsibilities, but she accepted the charge willingly and uncomplainingly. During his late life she was the support of her aged father. In early life she was converted to the faith of Jesus Christ and was a member of the Methodist church. She maintained her faith to the end. Her death came as a great shock to her relatives and friends and she will be missed in the community. Funeral services were held Monday from the home, conducted by Rev. E. A. Place. The remains were laid to rest in the old cemetery.
