Description	:	Harriet Ann Magoulas McCord, 92, widow of John Kenneth McCord, Sr., passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2019, at her home in the loving presence of her family. Born January 2, 1927, in Manning, she was the daughter of the late Jerry Magoulas and the late Pauline Sheppard Peavy Magoulas. She was a graduate of Manning High School, class of 1944. She received a B.S. degree from Winthrop College and she attended graduate school at the University of South Carolina. Read More	Harriet Ann Magoulas McCord, 92, widow of John Kenneth McCord, Sr., passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2019, at her home in the loving presence of her family. Born January 2, 1927, in Manning, she was the daughter of the late Jerry Magoulas and the late Pauline Sheppard Peavy Magoulas. She was a graduate of Manning High School, class of 1944. She received a B.S. degree from Winthrop College and she attended graduate school at the University of South Carolina. After graduation she married her childhood sweetheart, Kenneth McCord, and moved to Clinton, where he attended Presbyterian College. She taught school, coached and was the swimming instructor at Thornwell Orphanage. The couple moved back to Manning in 1957 where she continued to teach for 49 years. She was Manning High School’s first basketball coach to win 100 games at which time she received a commendation from the S.C. State Legislature. During her coaching career at Manning High School, her teams won five conference championships and was a runner-up for a state championship. She was also the cheerleader sponsor for 10 years. In 1984 and 1986, under her leadership, MHS won the Governor’s School Health Promotion Contest. She received a special citation from Governor Dick Riley and Representative Alex Harvin at the State House. She served on the school advisory council for two years. In 1986, she was selected as Clarendon District Two Teacher of the Year. In 1997, she was inducted into the “Hall of Fame” by the Clarendon District Two Education Foundation. She loved music, teaching, gardening, helping her husband groom and show roses, and playing tennis with her friends. She was a member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church. In addition to her loving husband of 62 years and her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Magoulas and Bobby Magoulas.
