Sheldahl, age 96, of Huxley, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa A Funeral service will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Palestine Lutheran Church near Huxley. Burial will be in the Palestine Lutheran Cemetery. Harriet was born June 28, 1925 in Ames, Iowa to Edwin and Olga Erickson and was the oldest of four children. From a young age Harriet enjoyed China painting, quilting, decorating cakes and rosemaling. Harriet graduated from Shipley High School in 1943. After High School, Harriet met Elman Sheldahl and they married on May 14, 1950. Together, they raised two kids, Denise and Elman Wayne II on a farm in rural Huxley. Harriet had six grandkids and twelve great grandkids. Harriet retired in 1987, from the Iowa DOT as a draftsman. She also worked as an accountant for the City of Ames, the Fjord in Huxley, and many others. After retirement, often times you would see Harriet actively involved in many organizations; such as Sons of Norway, Daughters of the Civil War, White Shrine and a longtime member of Palestine Lutheran Church. She held an office position in many of these organizations. Harriet enjoyed her Norwegian heritage. She enjoyed making Norwegian food and teaching her grandkids and great grandkids how to make them. Harriet enjoyed camping, including going across Story County in a Conestoga Wagon while in her 80's. She enjoyed making holiday candy, and passing out candy to trick-or-treaters while dressed up in her witch costume, cackle and all. Harriet enjoyed attending church, her church family and dancing. Most of all, Harriet loved being with and spending time with her family and friends. Harriet was survived by her sister, Lucy Hoffman of Ames; daughter, Denise Elliott of Huxley; son, Elman Sheldahl II of Ames; six grandkids: Tim (Nicole) Elliott of Huxley, Chad (Lisa) Elliott of Stanhope, Iowa, Kristen (Jeffrey) Kane of Maxwell, Iowa, Carla (Joseph) Kirkpatrick of Ankeny, Iowa, Michael and Nathan Sheldahl of Ames; twelve great-grandkids: Hannah, Rylie, Peyton, Ciara, Elliott, Stetson, Aleena, Adalie, Sophia, Chad Jr, Ayden, and Lulamae. Harriet was preceded in death by husband, Elman Sheldahl; brother, Don Erickson; and sister Madeliene Mullica; son-in-law Lowell Elliott; and granddaughter, Heather Thompson.
