Added 16 June 2018∼Gilman Dispatch, February 12, 1904 Death claimed a good woman at 9 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, February 3, 1904, when Mrs. John Edwards, Sr., passed away at her home in Chester township, Poweshiek county, aged 53 years, 7 months, and 26 days. The cause of death was heart trouble, from which she had been suffering some time. The funeral services were held at her late home Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Rev. W.S. Kight of Lovilia officiating. Burial was in Prairie View cemetery, Gilman, beside her husband, who died in 1887 [sic]. Harriet Bennett was born in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, on June 7, 1850. With her parents she removed to Henry county, Illinois, in 1862. She was united in marriage with John Edwards in 1873. To this union four children were born, one of whom died in infancy, the three others survive to mourn the loss of the dearest friend earth can afford. She, with her family, removed to Victor, Iowa, in 1880, living there one year, when they removed to the farm where she died. The death of the mother is always considered a great loss, and the passing away of Mrs. Edwards is no exception.
