Harriet Delilah Bucy was born Jan. 9, 1912, in her parents' home in Hubbard, the daughter of Isaac and Lillian (Clancy) Bucy. She spent her childhood in Hubbard and graduated from Hubbard High School. She later attended what is now Iowa State University for one year. Delilah was united in marriage to Enlow "Ben" Guy Bailey on Dec. 3, 1932, at her parents' home in Hubbard. Following their marriage, they made their first home in Des Moines, then spent 12 years in Fort Dodge and 12 years in Marathon, Iowa, before moving to Belmond, where they made their home for 40 years. Mr. Bailey was employed by Helland and Long Implement. Delilah was a life long homemaker, devoted wife and wonderful mother. Her family was the joy of her life. She had worked in retail for a number of years. Her last employment was with the Redder Drug Store in Belmond. Delilah and her husband, Ben, were very much devoted to their family and each other. They enjoyed following the many activities of their children and grandchildren. Delilah looked forward to times spent with her grandchildren as much as they looked forward to visiting and staying at grandpa and grandma's from time to time. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star during her years in Marathon, and belonged to the PEO organization in Belmond. She and her husband were longtime members of the Belmond United Methodist Church, and Delilah had been active in the UMCW. She loved to play bridge, enjoyed reading, and was an excellent cook and housekeeper. She will be remembered as a great friend to many and life partner of 67 years with her husband. She and Ben enjoyed traveling, and had been to Mexico on several occasions and to Europe. Following Ben's retirement, they spent nearly 20 years wintering in Kissee Mills, Mo. They also very much enjoyed dancing throughout most of their life. Following her husband's death in 1999, Delilah had lived for periods of time with both of her daughters and then for the past two and one-half years at the care center in Leon. During her time in Leon, she attended the Leon Bible Church. Those left to cherish the memory of her life include her two daughters, Diane and Gordie Anderson, of Lake View, Ark., and Marcia and Wayne Holder, of Leon; she adored her four grandsons, Scott Allan and Carrie Anderson, Kevin Lee and Debra Anderson, Todd Gordon and Faith Anderson, and Mark and Tonia Dorr; great-grandchildren, Christopher and Chloe Dorr, Nolan and Rosalyn Anderson, Spencer and Riley Diane Anderson, and Izaak and Lucas Anderson; also nephews, Craig P. Bucy and wife, Vivian, Dr. James G. Bucy and wife, Jane, Jerry Bailey and wife, Norma, and Bruce Voogd; nieces, Charyl Bowman and husband, Richard, Sandra Stephenson, and Kay and Wayne Willette. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 67 years, E.G. "Ben" Bailey; and her brother and his wife, Dr. Paul C. Bucy and Evelyn.
