Description	:	Jonathan Cryder and John Quincy Brink, his brother-in-law, were early pioneers of Graham community. These gentlemen purchased the Graves Plantation on August 22, 1865 which they sold a year later in September of 1866. In 1869 Jonathan purchased land: the NW ¼ of Section 16 in township 62 of range 36 in Nodaway County from Stephen H. Barnes. Jonathan Cryder was born 23 Apr 1828 in Springfield Twp., Hopetown, Ross, Ohio; the son of Benjamin and Frances "Fanny" (Coover) Cryder. Jonathan married 20 Oct 1850 to Harriet Downs. Harriet was born 08 Apr 1831 and was the second of eight children born to John and Elizabeth (Smith) Downs of Springfield Twp., Hopetown, Ross, Ohio. In the fall of 1850, Jonathan, a farmer and stock raiser, with his wife Harriet joined other family members who were making the move west, and settled on a farm in Perry, Pike County, Illinois. They lived and farmed in Perry for fifteen years and this is where eight of their ten children were born: Benjamin Franklin "Frank", Flora E., Jonathan Milton (Milt), Curtis G., George T., Emma E., Albert M., and Clara. In 1865 they sold out and came to Nodaway County, Missouri where daughters Mary E. (Mollie) and Alta May were born. 1.) Benjamin Franklin "Frank" born 08 Sep 1851 married Rebecca O. Gillis 2.) Flora E. born in Nov 1853, passed away at nearly 12 years of age 16 Oct 1865 near Graham. She is buried in the Groves Cemetery near Graham, although the headstone is no longer there. 3.) Jonathan Milton "Milt" born 11 Aug 1855 married Mary Ellen Clester. 4.) Curtis G. born in Jan 1857, died in infancy 10 Apr 1857 and is buried in the Wilson-McCord Cemetery, Perry, Pike, IL in the Cryder family plot. 5.) George T. born 03 Feb 1858 married Ruth Savanna Moore 6.) Emma E. born in 1861, passed away 03 Nov 1878 on the way to Missouri. Her place of burial is unknown, but a marker was erected near her parents at the Prairie Home Cemetery in Graham. 7.) Albert M. is mentioned as a deceased child in the 1882 History of Nodaway County, Missouri biography, but no record has been found. 8.) Clara born 27 Jun 1864 married Humphrey Lyle 9.) Mary E. "Mollie" born 12 Jan 1867 married John Francis "Frank" Heasty 10.) Alta May born 16 Feb 1872 married Frederick "Fred" Grant Turnure Harriet passed away 30 Dec 1883 in Graham, Nodaway, Missouri at the age of 52 years. She was laid to rest in Prairie Home Cemetery, Graham, Nodaway, Missouri. Jonathan passed away 31 Oct 1885 in Graham, Nodaway County, Missouri at the age of 57 years. He was laid to rest in Prairie Home Cemetery, Graham, Nodaway, Missouri with his wife.
