Description	:	Harriet Easton was born in Newtown, Queens Co , Long Island, May 21, 1848, and at the age of seven came with her parents to West Union, Iowa, where she remained until the time of her death, which occurred at 5:30 o'clock, Oct. 28, 1905. At about 16 years of age she made a profession of religion and united with the Christian church. Was married to Mr. Cornelius Stirk, Dec. 17, 1865. To this union were born six children, Mrs. Jennie Havenstrite, of Crescent, Ok., Mrs. Clara Orchard, of West Union, Mrs. Laura Hull, of Crescent, Ok., Miss Alice, Mrs. Mabel Bloomfield, and Mr. C. W. Stirk, of West Union. These and thirteen grand children remain with her husband to mourn her loss. In 1894 she united with the Baptist church of West Union and remained a faithful and consistent member until the end. She was a devoted and affectionate companion and mother, untiring in her efforts to care for those about her to make their lives pleasant and happy. As a Christian she was true, humble and sincere, doing her work heartily without seeking praise to herself. The family, the church, and the community at large lose one of its most useful and trusted characters. "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from henceforth, Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors and their works do follow them." For years Mrs. Stirk has suffered intensely and during the latter period of her illness, when death seemed inevitable, her pains were only allayed by the use of opiates. She fully realized her condition and exercised the same care and foresight that had charactized her entire life, in preparations for her funeral, to the minutest details. Mrs. Stirk was a noble specimen of the true American womanhood, earnest and conscientious in her church and other public relations, faithful, true and helpful in all her forty years as a wife, tender and just as a mother. To her grief-stricken children the light and life has gone from the home that can never again be home to them, and her sorrowing husband is like one dazed and lost. The funeral was held at 10:30 at the Baptist church. There was a large attendance of friends and neighbors at the farm home, three miles east of town, the long procession that followed her remains to the church, and the large attendance of the town people, evincing the high esteem in which deceased was held. The church service was conducted by Rev. E. H. Gillet, of Nora Springs, assisted by Revs. Hill and Crowder. There was a profusion of flowers. The bearers were old soldier comrades of Mr. Stirk, all but one from his old regiment, the 3d. Iowa, four of Co. F . The members of Abernethy Post G. A. R. were present to express their sympathy for their comrade in this hour of his terrible affliction.
