Born Dec. 4, 1923, to Jake and Mary Schwenneker at the home of her maternal grandmother in Billings, she was the fifth of seven children. Read More	Harriet Jane Rickman Harriet Jane Rickman made her final trip on March 1, 2018, with her daughter by her side. Born Dec. 4, 1923, to Jake and Mary Schwenneker at the home of her maternal grandmother in Billings, she was the fifth of seven children. She grew up on the ranch at Nye, attending the Nye school, 4 years in Absarokee and graduated from Senior HS in Billings, in 1943. She was active in 4-H, attending state events for her art work. She married neighbor Ezra Grover Rickman, Jr. on Nov. 28, 1943, at the ranch and moved to TX while he was in aviation school in the US Army Air Corp. Their daughter, Cathleen was born in Lubbock, TX in 1945. After the war they returned to MT where he became a partner in the Fishtail Store with Liz Kennedy. Their son, Steven was born in Billings in 1947. In 1951, Grover was recalled to service and the family moved to Napa, CA while he flew in Korea. They were then transferred to Amarillo, AFB TX, McGuire AFB NJ, and Johnson Air Station in Japan for four years. Grover was liaison officer with the USAF and Civil Air Patrol in Helena before the couple was transferred to Clark AFB in the Philippines. When Grover was called to serve in Viet Nam Harriet returned to their home in Helena. She enjoyed the travel, art classes, flower arranging, teaching English, being a Girl Scout leader, active PTA mom, and various offices in her Church and OES. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, having joined when she was 18! She served twice as Worthy Matron, was on the Rainbow Board, and received the Grand Cross of Colors. The couple retired to the ranch at Nye, where Grover built the brick home of her dreams in 1972. She loved gazing on the Beartooths, being active in her church, caring for her grandchildren and being available to help others. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover, son Steven, sister, Helen (Chris) Thompson, brothers Bruce, Arthur, Warren and George. Her daughter, Cathy and son-in-law Dennis Hoyem, grandchildren Steven and Jennifer (Cory) Butler, great grandchildren, Greer, Marit and Joss Hoyem, daughter in-law, Sharon Rickman, brother Charles Schwenneker (Kathy), nieces, nephews and loving friends will miss her beautiful smile, patient kindness, hugs and admonition to “look for the good in everyone!” A celebration of her life will be held on May 18 at 11 a.m., at the Absarokee Community Congregational Church.
