Description	:	Harriet Keep Hitchcock, eldest child of Asa Hitchcock by his first wife Sophronia Sumner, b. Oct. 4 (bp. Nov. 21), 1824 at Dwight Mission to the Arkansas Cherokee in the Arkansas Territory. She d. of record Dec. 20, 1894 at Brookline, Mass. [MA VRs (1841-1910)] Her gravestone at Raynham, Mass. incorrectly states she died in 1896. Harriet's parents were missionaries and teachers to the Cherokee Indians. Harriet's mother d. in 1827 at Dwight Mission, her stepmother at Waverly, IL in 1843 and her father in 1849 at Waverly. It is likely that while residing at Waverly Harriet attended that town's Waverly Seminary. In the August 1850 census enumeration of Chesterfield, IL, Harriet was residing with the family of 44 year old Ebenezer Upham, which included James H. Upham, listed as a 22 year old "clerk." He and Harriet would marry and have one child, dau. Harriet J. Upham, b. of record at Raynham, Mass. in 1856, James listed as a minister in the birth record. What happened to James H. Upham cannot be found. However, their only child was either adopted by or chose to assume the surname of her stepfather. On Apr. 1, 1860 of record at Raynham, Mass. the widow Harriet K. Upham, called of Worcester, Mass., m. as his 2nd wife, Reuben Hall Andrews of Raynham, s. of Carmi Andrews and Nelly C. Hall, b. July 28, 1814 at Raynham. He was a retail grocer and d. of record Aug. 11, 1906 at Brookline, Mass. He and his two wives have a prominent family monument at Raynham, Mass. While there are no known children of this second marriage, Harriet's only known child Harriet J. Upham Andrews would marry John Spofford in circa 1880, have no recorded children, with her husband dying of record at Brookline in 1906. In addition Harriet Rose Palmer, the orphaned dau. of Harriet Keep (Hitchcock) Andrews' younger sister Julia Sophronia (Hitchcock) Palmer, b. in 1857 at Dwight Mission at Indian Territory, resided in Mass. with the Reuben Andrews family for many years and never married. Following the death of Harriet J. Upham Andrews' husband John Spofford, the two Harriet first cousins resided together for many years at Brookline, Mass. taking multiple extended trips to Europe prior to and after WWI. They were still living together in the 1930 census, Harriet Upham a music teacher and Harriet Rose a teacher and private family tutor.
