Read More	OBITUARY - Plain Dealer, Wabash (IN) Mrs. Harriet Vaughn Rigdon, former Wabash resident and long prominent in local, state and national patriotic organizations, died about 1:30 o'clock Friday afternoon in a small hospital in the French-Canadian village of Chicoutimi, Quebec, at the head of the Saguenay River, according to a message received later in the afternoon by Mrs. O.E. Ebbinghous, her sister. Mrs. Rigdon was critically injured on Tuesday afternoon on the docks at Chicoutimi as she came ashore from the S.S. Richelieu. Accompanied by two friends, Mrs. william Sherman Walker and Mrs. Grace Brasseau, Mrs. Rigdon had left Montreal by boat on Monday to enjoy a six-day cruise into the heart of Old French Canada. A card written on board and mailed at Quebec Tuesday was recieved by Mrs. Ebbinghouse Thursday. According to word telephoned by Jay Rigdon, his mother was crushed between two cars on the docks as she momentarily stepped away from her friends. Rushed to the tiny hospital, little hope was held for recovery as the full extent of her injuries became known. A blood transfusion Thursday filed to bring the hoped-for strength and early Friday, Mrs. Rigdon lapsed into a coma. Death followed within a few hours. Harriet Vaughn Rigdon, daughter of the late Thomas F. and Henrietta Vaughn, was born in Chicago, Ill. on Jan. 16, 1880. In 1899 she was united in marriage to Jay Alden Rigdon. She came to Wabash for residence in 1914 where she became active in patriotic societies and in 1919-20 was regent of the Frances Slocum chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was first reader in the First Church of Christ Scientist in Wabash for three years. Mrs. Rigdon was a stockholder and director of the Wabash Cabinet Company. Shortly after serving as regent of the local D.A.R. chapter, Mrs. Rigon was named state treasurer of the D.A.R. and later went to Washington D.c. to become associated with Mrs. William Sherman Walker in national defense work for that organization. She acted as treasurer-general of the national Society D.A.R. for three years, was a member of the Officers' Club of D.A.R. and later treasurer. Mrs. Rigdon was also a past national president of the Dames of the Loyal Legion and national treasurer of the Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America. Other affiliations were with the Mayflower Society, Colonial Dames, Ancient and Honorable Artillery, Daughters of American Colonists, Runnemeade, Huguenot Society, Daughters of Pilgrims, Daughters of Colonial Wars, 1812 Society, Colonial Wars and Colonial Dames VII Century. Since 1906, Mrs. Ridgon has spent her winters in Washington D.C. and the summer months at Lake Wawasee. She is survived by two children, Mrs. William C. Abbott (Frances Rigdon) of Topsfield, Mass. and Jay Alden Rigdon, Jr., Syracuse and Lake Wawasee. Five grandchildren, William Abbott, Harriett Abbott, Janet Abbott and Mary Abbott of Topsfield and Jay A. Rigdon III of Lake Wawasee, and two sisters, Mrs. E.O. Ebbinghouse, Wabash, and Mrs. J.N. Zigler of South Bend, also survive. Relatives here were to meet the body at South Bend during the weekend and cremation was to occur. Funeral services will be held in Falls cemetery at the Vaughn mausoleum at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon with the First Church of Christ Scientist in charge. It has been requested that flowers be omitted.
