Description	:	Harriett Stowell Smith was born Aug. 29, 1827 in Troy, New Hampshire and died in Monona, Iowa, May 27, 1914. Her early life was spent in Troy until her myrriage(marriage), then in Dorchester, Mass. and Malboro, N. H. till the death of her husband in 1892; since then her home has been in the west, with her daughters, Mrs. Van Orden of Watertown, Wis. and Mrs. Nellie Olmsted of Monona. Read More	Harriett Stowell Smith was born Aug. 29, 1827 in Troy, New Hampshire and died in Monona, Iowa, May 27, 1914. Her early life was spent in Troy until her myrriage(marriage), then in Dorchester, Mass. and Malboro, N. H. till the death of her husband in 1892; since then her home has been in the west, with her daughters, Mrs. Van Orden of Watertown, Wis. and Mrs. Nellie Olmsted of Monona. When Harriett was very young her father, a deacon in the Baptist church presented the child to the service of God. In her eighteenth year she became a member of the Baptist church, and at her marriage united with her husband in the Methodist church, later in life when she came west she affiliated together with her daughter's family in the congregational church. When eighteen years old she was married to Charles Smith, a school teacher by profession, when the Civil War broke out Mr. Smith went into the army and served through the greater portion of that struggle. The deceased was the mother of seven children, two dying in infancy, and two more having grown to mature life. Thus, three are left to pay the loving tribute to a good mother and woman in her death. The surviving are Henry C. Smith, Orange, Mass.; Mrs. Carrie Van Orden, Watertown, Wis. and Mrs. Nellie Olmsted, Monona, Iowa, together with these are 8 grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.
