Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 16 at Cambridge United Methodist Church in Cambridge, with Rev. H.D. Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Cambridge Cemetery. Harriett was born in Collins, IA on August 21, 1915 to Burton LeRoy and Lena Ruth (Davis) Whitney. She lived in Cambridge until 1971 then moved to Hudson, FL until returning to Cambridge in 1992. Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Cambridge Cemetery. Harriett was born in Collins, IA on August 21, 1915 to Burton LeRoy and Lena Ruth (Davis) Whitney. She lived in Cambridge until 1971 then moved to Hudson, FL until returning to Cambridge in 1992. She lived in Huxley from 1999-2001 and moved to Riverside Manor in August 2001. She was a graduate of White Oak High School. She married T. Donald Elder on January 21, 1938. Harriett was noted for her memory of dates, people and places. She loved crossword puzzles and crafts. She is survived by a daughter, Judy (B0b Kahler of Arizona City, AZ; two sons, Bruce (Ileda) Elder of Loveland, CO and Rodney (Marika) Elder of Clear Water, FL; four sisters Margaret Harrop of Huxley, Esta Cox of Huxley, Gwen Sydnes of Huxley and Wanda Whatoff of Ames; seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, John and Fred. Visitation is after 4 p.m. Thursday, with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater.
