She received her schooling in Paton, graduating from Paton High School in 1896. Her class included: Ida Dodge, Jesse Erickson, Samuel Hanger, Hattie Marker, Ethel Roberts, and Mabel J. Smith. FRANK LADD IS LAID TO REST AT PATON Harriett Viola, daughter of Martin and Martha Marker, was born Dec. 27, 1879, in Paton Twp., Greene County, one of a family of nine children. She received her schooling in Paton, graduating from Paton High School in 1896. Her class included: Ida Dodge, Jesse Erickson, Samuel Hanger, Hattie Marker, Ethel Roberts, and Mabel J. Smith. She then attended summer school at Drake University, and the county Teacher's Institutes. She then taught in rural and town schools for eight years. She was married on March 30, 1905 to Frank O. Ladd. They were the parents of four sons, Raymond of Midland, Mich., Floyd of West Des Moines, Wendell of Paton and Chester of Sterling, Ill. In 1898 Mrs. Ladd united with the Methodist Church in Paton and later transferred to Browns Presbyterian in Farmville, Va. Upon moving back to Paton, she placed her membership with the Presbyterian church there. She passed away in Des Moines May 22, having reached the age of 78 years, four months and 23 days. Funeral services for Mrs. Frank (Harriet) Ladd were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 24, at the Paton Presbyterian church, with the Rev. Donald Glazier, pastor of the Paton and Churdan Presbyterian churches, officiating. Doyle Carlson, accompanied by Mrs. Vera Easley, sang "The Holy City" and "Rock of Ages". Casket bearers were Phil Horn, Lloyd Seela, Tony Bertelli, Swan Carlson, Glen Tomlinson and Kenneth Swanson. Interment was in the Paton Twp. Cemetery. Preceding her in death were her parents, three sisters and three brothers. Surviving Mrs. Ladd are her husband; four sons and their wives; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Jessie E. Marker of San Diego, Calif., and Mary Griffith of Timnath, Colo., many other relatives and friends. The Jefferson Bee; Tuesday, May 27, 1958; page seven
