Willet was born July 17, 1860 at Kent, Stephenson county, Illinois, and died at his home in Firth January 31, 1918, at the age of 57 yrs. 6 mo. And 14 days. His marriage to Lizzie C. Miller occurred t Freeport, Illinois, July 23, 1881. To this union were born six children, five of whom survive him, James Franklin preceding his father in death in infancy. The living are Amy E. Springer of Hale Center, Texas, Jesse L., Arthur W., Hazel May Fisher, and Earl H., all of whom live in or near Firth. There are also six grandchildren. Four sisters and one brother are left to mourn the loss of the beloved brother. About thirty-three years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Willet left their home in Illinois and moved two and one-half miles southwest of Firth, from which place they removed to their present home in 1904. At the age of twenty years he united with the Methodist denomination and by this act acknowledged Christ as his personal Savior and friend. He has been in poor health for the past two years and has been a patient and enduring sufferer during his long illness. His last moments were spent in bidding his loved ones farewell ere he went to meet his Savior. His life will ever stand as a monument of “Good will toward men,” and his ready smile and pleasant greetings will be a lasting memory to a large circle of friends and acquaintances. He was a loving father and a faithful and devoted husband, and many the sorrowing loved ones find comfort and consolation in the hope of the reunion which will come at the close of life’s day. -Obituary from Ancestry Family Tree (newspaper source unknown)
