He was born November 27, 1908 in Walnut Grove, Tennessee. He was a member of The Jellico United Methodist Church where he was former Lay-leader and Board Member. He was former member and Chairman of The Building Committee of Jacksboro Methodist at the time the church was built. Read More	The Knoxville News-Sentinel June 16, 1999 MORTON, MR. HARRISON HOYT - of Jellico, Tennessee, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 1999 at his home. He was born November 27, 1908 in Walnut Grove, Tennessee. He was a member of The Jellico United Methodist Church where he was former Lay-leader and Board Member. He was former member and Chairman of The Building Committee of Jacksboro Methodist at the time the church was built. He retired after 44 years as School Principal, Teacher and Coach in Campbell County Schools. He had served in numerous capacities in school and community organizations. He was an elected delegate to The NEA Convention on several occasions. In November, 1981, he was honored with "Hoyt Morton Day" for his service to The City of Jellico. This also included the alumni of Jellico High School designating the football field as "Hoyt Morton Field". He received a BA Degree from LMU and a Masters Degree from UT. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Elva Shoun Morton; daughter, Sharon Morton of Clinton, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Reta and J. Will Jones of Lenoir City, TN; sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Gayle Morton of Chattanooga, TN and John and Patti Morton of Ft. Myers, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 17, at The Cox & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Jellico, TN. The funeral service will follow at 8:00 p.m. and will be conducted by The Rev. Wayne Hedrick and grandson, Rev. Paul Chitwood. Grandsons, Dana and Lynn Chitwood and Buddy and Ken Jones will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Interment will be Friday, June 18 at 10:00 a.m. at The Bakers Forge Cemetery in LaFollette, TN with Rev. J.L. Shoun and Rev. Paul Chitwood officiating. Memorial gifts can be made to Jellico United Methodist Church, 204 Fifth Street, Jellico, TN 37762.
