Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 22, 2010 at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa. Reverend Steve Brouwer of Rejoice! Community Church in Le Mars, Iowa will officiate. Burial with military rites conducted by the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron, Iowa will be in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Harry Ace Hoffman was born April 20, 1924 on a farm in Union County, South Dakota, the son of Ira and Louise (Strand) Hoffman. He attended country school in Union County. Following his schooling, he started farming in Union County. He was drafted into the United States Army, and served his country during the Korean Conflict. Following his service, he returned to the area. He was united in marriage to Rose Ahrens on December 30, 1958 in Laverne, Minnesota. Harry continued to farm in South Dakota. Later, he worked as a farmhand for Clarence Muth of Ireton, Iowa and later Gerald DeBoer of Le Mars, Iowa. He retired due to his health. He was a member of the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially watching birds and animals, and going hunting. He also enjoyed watching WWF wrestling on Monday nights. Survivors include his wife of over 57 years, Rose of rural Akron, Iowa; a daughter: Barb Avalos and her husband Manuel of Sturgeon Lake, MN; 4 grandchildren; 4 sisters-in-law: Beverly Ahrens of Sioux City, IA, Irene Gabel of Akron, IA, Ruby Nordgren and her husband Art of Statesboro, GA, and Mary Archer and her husband Roy of Salem, NC; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, the DeBoer family of rural Le Mars, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; a 3 brothers-in-law: Harry Ahrens, Virgil Gabel, and Harry Ahrens. Harry's family wish to thank Hospice of Siouxland and the staff of Plymouth Manor Care Center for their care and comfort during this time.
