Shaffer, aged 65, died Tuesday night, September 1, at his home in the Bethlehem Community near Deer Park. He had been in ill health the past year. A native of Preston county, W. Va., he was a son of the late Benjamin and Lula Elsey Shaffer. Mr. Shaffer was a farmer and was a member of the Baptist church at Loch Lynn and Camp 44, Woodmen of the World at Mt. Lake Park. Surviving are his widow, Bernice Moomaw Shaffer; five children, Mrs. James Hendershot, Hancock; Mrs. Paul Merrill, Laurel; Daryl and Oliver Shaffer, both of Deer Park, Wade Shaffer, Cleveland, O.; four sisters, Mrs. Daryl Brown, Morgantown, W. Va.; Mrs. Lester Carrick, Point Pleasant, W. Va.; Mrs. Edwin Humphreys, Kensington; Miss Twyla Shaffer, Baltimore; three brothers, Gilbert Shaffer, Cleveland; Ezra Shaffer, Cumberland; and Benjamin, Mt. Lake Park; and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Loch Lynn Evangelical United Brethren church, with Rev. G. Bryan Blair, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Valley cemetery. The body is at the residence.
