He was the husband of the late Emily [Agusta (Tinney)] Darby. Born Jan. 21, 1916, in Beallsville, he was the son of the late Harry C. and Katie Dyson Darby. Mr. Darby served in the Army from 1941 to 1945. He was a member of Monocacy Lions Club, Frederick Elks Club and was a volunteer fireman with Upper Montgomery County Fire Department Station 14. He is survived by one daughter, Donna Jean Ferril of Jefferson; one son, Douglas Wayne Darby of Virginia; two grandchildren, Kristi M. Frazier of Westminster, and Dale Thomas Ferril Jr. of Jefferson; and two great-grandchildren, Brendan Thomas Frazier and Kaitlyn Mackenzie Frazier. He was preceded in death by one son, H. Dunbar Darby Jr.; and three sisters, Elizabeth Darby, Catherine Vaughan Darby and Irene Dyson Winn. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Dec. 31, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Hilton Funeral Home, 22111 Beallsville Road, Barnesville, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2. Interment will be in Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Monocacy Cemetery, P.O. Box 81, Beallsville, Md. 20839; or Special Olympics, 1325 G. St., N.W., Suite 770, Washington, D.C. 20005-3104.
