Description	:	Harry Edward Laib was a young boy when his father died and later, when his mother remarried and they lived near McIntosh, he grew up as Harry Naums, his stepfather's name. As soon as his stepfather, Steve Naums, died in 1972, Harry took back his birth name of Laib. Harry moved to Mobridge on May 4, 1984, and made his home in the Brown Palace Apartments. Read More	Harry Edward Laib was a young boy when his father died and later, when his mother remarried and they lived near McIntosh, he grew up as Harry Naums, his stepfather's name. As soon as his stepfather, Steve Naums, died in 1972, Harry took back his birth name of Laib. Harry moved to Mobridge on May 4, 1984, and made his home in the Brown Palace Apartments. He was able to visit his mother a couple times a year as she was in the Selby nursing home. His social worker and friend John Riley was given guardianship of Harry on Dec. 1, 1986, and Harry became a part of the Riley family, doing many things with them over the years. He attended the Methodist Church with the Rileys until he was unable to get around. He loved to play his guitar and harmonicas; "Making a joyful noise," it was said. He also loved trying to yodel and was not afraid to demonstrate it in public despite not succeeding too well. In failing health, he entered the Mobridge Care Center in April of 1996, living there until moving to Five Counties Nursing Home on June 14, 2000. Harry died there on Tuesday evening, March 6, 2007, at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 14 days. He was born March 22, 1918, to Edward and Pauline (Knopp) Liab near Java. He had one sibling who died at birth, a sister Ella was adopted out at about age 4, and a brother Herman, who died at age 27. Harry's father died in the late 1920s and his mother married Naums in the early 1930s. Harry worked on the Vilhauer farm for many years from the time he was a young man. At some point in his life, he moved into the Dakota Hotel owned by Harry and Laverna Kittelson, living there for many years until moving to Mobridge. One aunt, Emma Biel, age 102 of Aberdeen, and her daughter, Genny and husband Leo Allmendinger of Selby are his survivors. Graveside services for Harry were Saturday, March 10, at the McIntosh Cemetery with Tottie Lenerville, CLP, officiating. Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
