Father of Jack D. and Joseph Richard Modglin. OBITUARY: Sullivan Man Killed While At His Work Harry Modglin Meets Instant Death This Morning While Working As Trip Rider In Hamilton Shaft. The Sullivan community was saddened this morning when the report came from the Hamilton Mine that Harry Modglin, one of the best known and most highly respected miners of the county, had met with instant death in an accident at the shaft. Modglin was a loader at Hamilton, but was working this morning as an extra trip-rider. It is thought that the trolley pole of the motor jumped the wire, hit a water pipe and that this pipe in falling caught Modglin, knocking him from the trip, inflicting fatal injuries. For years Modglin has lived in Sullivan, winning by his genial nature, friends by the score. Honest in his dealings with his fellow men and even going out of his way to do a kindly deed, ever ready to help and aid in a worthwhile cause, Modglin deserved the respect and friendships which he enjoyed. Modglin is survived by his wife, Mrs. Josephine Dudley Modglin; two little sons, Jack and Dickie Joe; his mother, Mrs. Jack Modglin of California; six brothers, Harold of Terre Haute, Alva and William of Vincennes, Roy, George and John of California and a host of other relatives and by friends that are numbered by his acquaintanceship. Definite funeral arrangements will not be made until the relatives in California can be heard from. OBITUARY: Modglin Funeral Funeral services honoring the memory of Harry Modglin will be held at the Modglin home in South Section street Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock. OBITUARY: Honor Memory Of Well Known Man Harry Modglin Laid To Rest In Center Ridge Cemetery --- Tribute Is Paid Relatives and friends gathered at the Modglin home, 471 South Section street, Wednesday afternoon to pay a sad tribute of respect to Harry Modglin, whose sudden and tragic death in the Hamilton mine Saturday, shocked and grieved the Sullivan community. Rev. W.E. Fisher of the Methodist church brought the sermon tribute and sacred hymns were sung by a quartet from the Baptist church. Many friends paid their respect to the memory of the man, whose friendship they had treasured in life and the funeral was one of the largest ever held in Sullivan. A profusion of beautiful floral pieces and fragrant bouquets and sprays of blossoms testified to the community sympathy for the bereaved family and the respect in which Harry Modglin had been held. Flower bearers were Ina Hampton, Marie Leach, Lois Moon, Mary Hunt, Hallie Alsop and Hazel Hunt. The pall bearers were William Grable, John Shulock, Albert Bedwell, George Harris, Hershel Black and Glenn Allen. Burial was in the Center Ridge cemetery. ~~ I ONLY LIST FAMILY MEMBERS. ~~
