Graveside military honors were conducted by the Britt American Legion Post No. 315, the Britt V. F. W. Post No. 4370 and the Hancock County Barracks of WW I Veterans. Special Memorial services were held Friday at 8 p.m. at the Grupe Funeral Home by the member? of I.O.O.F. Britt Protection Lodge No. 611 and a family prayer service was held at the funeral home preceding the church service. Harry Hall Packard was born the son of Charles H. and Nellie Williams Packard on August 22, 1893, at Renwick, Iowa. He graduated from the Renwick High School in 1911 and was a graduate of the Palmer Barber College at Cedar Rapids. During WWI, Mr. Packard served in Company A, 168th Infantry of the 42nd Division of the American Expeditionary Forces in France. He was wounded in action on July 29, 1918, and was returned to the Fort Des Moines hospital, where he received his honorable discharge on January 14, 1919. He was united in marriage to Ruth Obermeier of Charles City, on December 8, 1921 at Cedar Rapids. The couple moved to Renwick in 1922 and to St. Ansgar in 1934, where he operated a barber shop. Later the couple moved to Britt, where Mr Packard had operated a barber shop for the past 27 years. He died at his home Wednesday noon, having attained the age of 73 years, 7 months and 27 days. Mr. Packard was a member of the Hancock County Barracks of WWI Veterans, the Methodist Church, Britt Chamber of Commerce, Britt American Legion Post No. 315, Britt V.F.W. Post No. 4370, I.O.O.F. Britt Protection Lodge No. 611 and was an inactive member of the Rainbow Division of WWI Veterans. Surviving are his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Joyce Scott of Los Angeles, Calif., three sons, Caivln of Mason City, Duane of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Dr. Keith Packard of Los Angeles, Calif. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Maude Janes of Renwick and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Myrna, in infancy, his son-in-law, Kenneth Scott, his parents, three sisters, Francis, Winifred, Marjorie, and one brother Charles.
