Kemmerer, son of Harrison and Ida Beck Kemmerer, was born at Amber, Ia., July 21, 1886, and died Sunday, June 2, 1963, at his home in Oelwein. He came to Oelwein with his parents when four years old and spent most of his life here, attending grade school and graduating from Oelwein High school. Kemmerer, son of Harrison and Ida Beck Kemmerer, was born at Amber, Ia., July 21, 1886, and died Sunday, June 2, 1963, at his home in Oelwein. He came to Oelwein with his parents when four years old and spent most of his life here, attending grade school and graduating from Oelwein High school. He spent some time traveling in show business and in military services in World War I. He was married to Arlie Strawn at Winterset June 7, 1919. Their 44th wedding anniversary would have been the Friday of the week of his death. He was employed as a machinist at the Great Western Railroad for 25 years, but was forced to retire because of impaired health in 1946. Mr. Kemmerer loved music and was a natural musician. He specialized in the French horn, the mellophone, was a member of the Oelwein City band and has played the trumpet in his war years. He was an accomplished ball player, serving a number of years on the Oelwein City Baseball team. He had been in failing health for a number of years, having undergone major surgery several times. He is survived by his widow, Arlie; three daughters, Ida Louise (Mrs. Elmer Schmadeke) of Cedar Falls; Harriet Ann (Mrs. Sid Johnson) of Waterloo, and Bonnie Belle (Mrs. Robert Barton) of Eldora; three sons, Don William, of Garden Grove, Calif.; Gene Dudley of Anoka, Minn., and Thomas of Oelwein; one brother, M.F. Kemmerer of Oelwein, and one sister, Mrs. Cora Keckler of Berwyn, Ill. There are 15 grandchildren. Mr. Kemmerer was a veteran of World War I, a member of the D.A.V., and of the Grace Methodist church.. Memorial services were conducted on Thursday June 6, 1963, in Grace Methodist church by the Rev. E. Morris Egeland. Casket bearers were Sam Mazziotti, Dr. James Roling, Joseph Kisner, William Langel, W. Kemmerer and John McNamara.
