Description	:	Harry Otto Borns, 91, Watertown, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, in a care center at Watertown. Funeral services will be Saturday in St. Martin's Lutheran Church at Watertown with the Rev. Dennis Hayes officiating. Burial, with military graveside rites provided by Codington County Post 17 of the American Legion, will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery at Watertown. Active pallbearers will be his nephews, Steve Borns, Virgil Borns, Mark Beutow, James Beutow, Roger Hanson, Jeff Moes, Gary Borns and Mike Morlan. Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel. He was born Oct. 12, 1916, in Codington County to Arthur and Anna (Noeldner) Borns. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mazeppa Township, Grant County. He attended school at Germantown Township. He farmed until entering the U.S. Army at Fort Snelling in 1942. He was honorably discharged in August of 1943. He returned to the farm and farmed until retiring and moving to Watertown in 1985. Nov. 2, 1963, he married Dorothy (Keat) Dahl at Mazeppa Lutheran Church. He was a member of St. John's for many years serving on various boards. He was presently a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Watertown. He served on the Township Board for Germantown and Leola Townships for many years, the Codington County ASCS Board, the South Shore Germantown District 65 School Board and the Farmers' Co-op Elevator Board. He was also a member of the South Shore Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the American Legion for more than 60 years. He worked part-time writing insurance for Codington County Farm Mutual and De Smet Farm Mutual. He enjoyed playing softball and managing the South Shore Co-op Creamery team. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and visiting. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy. Survivors include three stepchildren, LaVonne and her husband George Selchert of South Shore, Douglas L. Dahl of Sioux Falls and Wallace J. and his wife Judy Dahl of Watertown; one stepdaughter-in-law, Judy Dahl of Watertown; three brothers, Virgil and his wife Donna Borns and Wilmer Borns, all of Watertown and Raymond and his wife Jane Borns of Kit Carson, Colo.; three sisters, Jeanette and her husband John Moes, Ruby Hanson and Delores and her husband Glenn Beutow, all of Watertown; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
