Description	:	Red Cloud resident, 83 GRAND ISLAND - Harry Richard Martin, 83, of Red Cloud, formerly of Elwood, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at the Veterans Affairs Regional Medical Center in Grand Island. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Elwood Funeral Home with the Rev. David Welch officiating. Burial of cremains will be at Elwood Cemetery with military rites by the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Survivors include his sons, Joe and special friend Mary Rooksted of Oxford and Richard Martin of Red Cloud; daughters, Pamela Stehl of Wilcox and Tammy Hillebrand and husband, Jeff, of Edison; brother, Fred Martin and wife, Patsy, of Elwood; sister, Elaine Keiser and husband, Bob, of Gothenburg; six grandchildren and one great-grandson. He attended Callaway High School and graduated with the class of 1947. He would go on to school at Milford Tech School for a few years. He then joined the U.S. Army and served in Korea during the Korean War. He and his family resided in Crete, Ill., where he worked for Youngstown Steel Mill until his retirement in 1975. The family moved back to Nebraska and settled near Elwood. He worked for several years at Kingsley Ready Mix in Holdrege and Walmart in Lexington. He was a member of the Elwood American Legion. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wallace; and sister, Callie McClendon. Published in Kearney Hub on December 12, 2012
