In commenting upon the tragic ending of the popular citizen the Democrat of Manchester says: "Dr. Harry T. Couser, popular and well known local dentist, died at a local hospital Thursday forenoon, October 22nd 1936 after an illness of a few days. It appears that Dr. Couser had been troubled with an impacted wisdom tooth for some time and sent to a dentist's office in Cedar Rapids Thursday October 15th to have the troublesome tooth removed. In order to take out the impacted tooth surgery was necessary. Following the operation Dr. Couser returned home and was up and about as usual. Infection developed in the jaw which later proved to be streptococcus. Dr. Couser entered the local hospital on Tuesday and every effort was made to check the progress of the vicious infection. "Dr. Couser was born at Zearing, Iowa, August 4th, 1896. He received his early education in the public schools of Story county and graduated from the Colo high school. He entered the University of Iowa as a student in the college of dentistry and finished his work there in June 1919. He first practiced his profession in Chelsea for two years and Belle Plaine for five years. He came to Manchester in 1926, and has been actively engaged in the practice of his profession since. "He is survived by his father Thomas Couser, and three brothers, Edward, Arthur and Harvey all of Story county. His mother preceded him in death in February 1932. "Dr. Couser was a member of the local Knights of Pythias lodge, the American Legion post, Manchester Rifle club, and the Delaware Fish and Game Protective association, and manifested a wholesome interest in the work of these organizations. "Dr. Couser had a high regard for the profession he had chosen as his life's work. He was thoroughly trained in his work and at all times kept himself informed on the newer methods used in the profession During the years of his work here Dr. Couser did a great deal of work for the underprivileged children of Manchester. He was most helpful to those who were charged with the duties of aiding distressed humanity and counted it a privilege to give such assistance. "The news of the unexpected death of Dr. Couser came as a great shock to our people and many who had learned to know him so well will miss him greatly as years come and go. These friends deep-aiding distressed humanity and brothers who mourn for him at this time."
