Description	:	A beautiful life came to a crossroad on January 9, 2018 with Harry Thomas Scamihorn, 97, leaving to be with the Lord and his wife of 66 years Mildred. Read More	A beautiful life came to a crossroad on January 9, 2018 with Harry Thomas Scamihorn, 97, leaving to be with the Lord and his wife of 66 years Mildred. He was born in Lewis, Indiana on June 8, 1920 to Harry and Bertha (Smith) Scamihorn. He spent his childhood in Lewis and attended Lewis Elementary School. He went on to graduate from Blackhawk High School in 1938. While in high school he met the love of his life, Mildred Irene All. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Laporte, Indiana where he and his older brother, John both worked for Allis-Chalmers. With the coming of World War II Harry was drafted into the Navy; spending most of his service as a diesel engine and torpedo mechanic stationed at the New London, Connecticut submarine base. After the war they came back to Terre Haute and he went to work for Standard Brands-Campbell Soup Company. Later he worked for the Federal Penitentiary as a stationary boiler operator, retiring as Chief Engineer. Following retirement Harry and Mildred traveled extensively and spent many happy years as antique dealers. Harry was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mildred, older brother John (Dorothy All), and younger sister Imogene Ruth Buck and newphew Richard Joseph “Joe” Buck. He is survived by his son Dennis Scamihorn (Karen), nephew Dallas, nieces Janice Raines (Jerry) and Jonilee Wright (Carl), grandson Ben Scamihorn, granddaughter Katie Chevrier (Joe), and great-grandchildren John, Annalena, and Andrew Scamihorn and Jaxon, Eli, and Sofia Chevrier. A heartfelt thank you goes to the wonderful loving people of Cumberland Trace in Plainfield where he spent the last two years of his life. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at DeBaun Springhill Chapel from 6-8 p.m. Services will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Boot City Opry House, something he dearly loved and rarely missed. Reverend Forest Raines will be officiating. Burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Published in the Tribune Star January 10, 2018 Terre Haute
