Harry Collins was born Nov. 5, 1908, son of Clyde and Daisy (Ingham) Collins in Stillwater, Okla. They moved to North Iowa when he was a small child. Harry was united in marriage to E. Mae Porter on Aug. 16, 1931. They lived in Franklin and Cerro Gordo counties engaged in farming. In 1953 Harry accepted a job as grounds keeper at the Memorial Park Cemetery between Mason City and Clear Lake. He was employed there until his retirement. In 1993 they moved to Hampton to be closer to family. When their health began to fail, they made their home at the Extended Care Facility at Franklin General Hospital. He was an active member of the Congregational Church in Clear Lake and later the First Congregational Church in Hampton. Harry was known for his great sense of humor and practical jokes. He liked to camp and play cards. Harry especially enjoyed his children and three generations of grandchildren. Harry is survived by his wife, Mae; two daughters, Doris and her husband, Paul Greimann, of Hampton and LaVerna and her husband Gentry Leeps, of Cresco; two sons, Kenneth and his wife, Michelle, of Grafton and Dennis and his wife, Cindy, of Fredricksburg, Texas; one sister, Carlotta Philpott of Sumner; one sister-in-law, Ellen Collins of Mason City; Aunt Josie England of Spencer; many nieces and nephews; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Harry was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Claude, Maynard, and Jesse; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild. Grarup Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements - (515) 892-4241.
