He was born on February 8, 1919, at Puloski, IA, to the late Louis B. and Maude Anna (Tackett) Folkes. He was raised and graduated from high school in Iowa. Folkes, 90, a 44 year Wenatchee area resident, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2009, at Central Washington Hospital. He was born on February 8, 1919, at Puloski, IA, to the late Louis B. and Maude Anna (Tackett) Folkes. He was raised and graduated from high school in Iowa. Following high school, he moved to Northern Idaho for work, and there he met Dorothy Lou Bard. They were later married on August 17, 1940, at Coeur d'Alene, ID. They made their first home together in Davenport, WA. During W.W.II, they moved to Port Orchard and Harry worked as a civilian in the Naval Shipyards. In 1945, they moved to Wenatchee, and later moved to Brewster in 1951. He worked as an Electrician and had worked on all of the major Columbia River Dams. During this time, he also cleared land and started an orchard in Brewster. In 1964, they moved to Whitefish, MT, where he worked as a Commercial Electrician for Valco and Kaiser. He was transferred to West Ghana, Africa in 1965, and later to Southeast Asia in 1969. He also worked on projects in Thailand and Japan, before retiring and returning to Wenatchee in 1971. They moved to East Wenatchee in 1972, and started a soft fruit orchard operation. On October 25, 1985, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy L. Folkes. Harry continued to make his home in East Wenatchee, until moving to Wenatchee in 2003. He was a member of the Bridgeport Columbia Lodge and the Omak Palestine Lodge F&AM Masonic and was a past member of the Puritan Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star of Bridgeport. He was also a former member of the Wenatchee B.P.O.E # 1186. Harry enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and bowling. He was well known as a very good cribbage player. He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Dannis and Gary Smith of Omak and Renee Sipe of East Wenatchee; one son and daughter-in-law, William "Bill" and Gladys Folkes of Wenatchee; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and his special friend, Liz Branam of Wenatchee. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; and one infant brother. Commemoration Services were held on Thursday, September 17, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Heritage Memorial Chapel, 19 Rock Island Road, East Wenatchee. The Interment Services followed in Wenatchee Cemetery, with Masonic Rites. Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 16, at the funeral home. Arrangements in the care of Heritage Memorial Chapel, East Wenatchee.
