Max and Clare Porter and John T. and Melva Casey were in charge of flowers. Interment was in the Massena Center Cemetery. Military graveside rites were held by the Massena American Legion Post 693. A luncheon was served in the United Methodist Church Hall following the Committal. The Steen Funeral Homes of Massena, Fontanelle, and Greenfield were in charge of arrangements. Harry William Stapleton was born February 3, 1915 to James and Elizabeth Brown Stapleton in Massena, Iowa. Harry married Mildred Luella Harris on July 10, 1938 at the Methodist Church in Maryville, Missouri. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary July 10, 1988. Harry lived his entire life in Massena except for two and a half years he served in the Navy during World War II. He worked as a mechanic most of his life. He was employed by the Cumberland & Massena Schools as school mechanic and bus driver for several years until he retired in 1980. He was a member of the Massena Methodist Church, the Massena American Legion and the V. F. W. of Atlantic, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, George and Jeanette Brown of Cumberland, Iowa and Eliza Stapleton of New York City. He is survived by his wife, Mildred of Massena, Iowa; children, Shirley Eshelman and husband, Albert of Adair, Iowa, Harry Stapleton and wife, Janet of Fontanelle, Iowa, David Stapleton and wife, Evelyn of Des Moines, Iowa and Jean Dohrmann and husband, Russ of Des Moines, Iowa; sister, Helen Shipman and husband, Don of Council Bluffs, Iowa; brother, James Stapleton and wife, Leona of Wiota, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and eight step-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
