Description	:	H.D. "Fritz" Cappell, Jr., 93, former resident of Alpine Way, died Sunday, December 31, 2006. He was the son of the late H.D. Cappell, Sr. and Eulalie Chandler Cappell, and was a 1931 graduate of Greenville High School. He was assistant manager and ticket manager of the Greenville Memorial Auditorium for 15 years, having worked part time and full time for 35 years. He was also athletic ticket manager for Furman University for many years, as well as ticket manager for the Greenville Braves the first 5 years they were in Greenville. He handled advance ticket sales for the ACC Baseball... Read More	H.D. "Fritz" Cappell, Jr., 93, former resident of Alpine Way, died Sunday, December 31, 2006. He was the son of the late H.D. Cappell, Sr. and Eulalie Chandler Cappell, and was a 1931 graduate of Greenville High School. He was assistant manager and ticket manager of the Greenville Memorial Auditorium for 15 years, having worked part time and full time for 35 years. He was also athletic ticket manager for Furman University for many years, as well as ticket manager for the Greenville Braves the first 5 years they were in Greenville. He handled advance ticket sales for the ACC Baseball Tournament for 7 years. A member of Third Presbyterian Church since November 1924, he served as Deacon, benevolence treasurer, Elder, Clerk of the Session and Trustee. He was a member of the Greenville Lions Club since 1967, was the Lion Tamer for many years, and was named Lion of The Year in 1980-81. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Boys Home of The South. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II in Arzu, Algeria, Palermo, Sicily and aboard the USS Craven in the Mediterranean. He was called back into service during the Korean Conflict, and served aboard the USS Yancy in Japan and Korea, the USS Knap in the Atlantic and the Caribbean, also the USS Cascade operating out of Boston. He was predeceased by his wife of over sixty years, Mildred Campbell Cappell, and was the last member of his immediate family. Surviving are two nieces, Gail Broussard of Gastonia, N.C. and Sandra Willis of North Augusta, SC; and a dear friend, Evelyn Smith of Greenville. Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2006, at The Mackey Mortuary, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, White Horse Rd. The Mackey Mortuary.
