Read More	SEWARD MOURNS DEATH OF PROMINENT CITIZEN Harvey A. Hershberger Died Suddenly On Saturday Evening. The news of the sudden and unexpected death of Harvey A. Hershberger, well known Seward citizen, last Saturday evening cast a deep gloom over the community. Mr. Hershberger had not complained of being ill and was thought to have been in the best of health. He had just returned from supper that evening and was in the office of the garage with his business partner Jake Hartrum, when the end came. The deceased had been connected with the business interests of the city for about eighteen years and had made a host of friends during that period who mourn his loss. Obituary Harvey A. Hershberger was born in Holmes County, Ohio, May 8, 1872, and passed away November 26, aged fifty-five years, six months and eighteen days. At the age of nineteen he came west making his home for a time near Milford. With his family he came to Seward about eighteen years ago. He was united in marriage to Miss Catherine Jantze at Milford, Nebraska, September 26, 1897, and leaves to mourn his departure besides his wife, his three children, Vernon, Elsie and Ruth, six brothers and three sisters and a great company of friends who were numbered almost by his acquaintance. Funeral services were held from the home Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock under the direction of A. B. Chain, Rev. Harry Hansen, officiating clergyman. All Seward business houses and court house offices were closed from two to three o’clock and Judge Hastings recessed the district court during the hour of the funeral. Seward Journal, December 1, 1927, page 1 *********************************************** DEATH OF PROMINENT SEWARD BUSINESS MAN This community was shocked on Saturday by the death of one of its most prominent citizens, H. A. Hershberger, who expired at about 5 o'clock at his garage while sitting at his desk. He had just returned from supper at his home and was engaged in conversation when he suddenly expired. Mr. Jake Hartrum and Mr. E. A. Schmid, and two other men from Milford, were present at the time of his death. Dr. Bert Morrow was called but he had passed to another land. The funeral was held from the home at 2 o’clock yesterday under the direction of A. B. Chain. Rev. Harry Hansen, pastor of the Federated church of this city, officiated. Mr. Hershberger was a faithful churchman and an all around good citizen. He was an officer for years in the Congregational church. His loss will be keenly felt by his wife, son and daughters, and relatives. Three of his brothers arrived here from Ohio Tuesday morning to attend the funeral. All places of business were closed during the hour of the funeral. Harvey A. Hershberger, Seward's pioneer auto dealer, expired suddenly about 7:30 Saturday evening a week ago , according to the Seward Independent , while sitting in the office of his garage talking to his friends. Ed Schmid of Seward and Henry Birkey of Milford and son of Milford, together with Jake Hartrum were present at the time. Mr. Hershberger was apparently in his usual good health, when he suddenly lurched forward in his chair . Dr. Bert Morrow was summoned immediately and reached the stricken man within five minutes, but death came two or three minutes later. A stroke of apoplexy is believed to have been the cause.
