Harvey Harris, one of the pioneer settlers of this county, died at his home northeast of town, Monday (December 16, 1907). A more extended sketch will appear in next week's paper. *** The Morning Sun News-Herald, December 26, 1907, Morning Sun, Iowa: An Old Pioneer Passes to His Reward. Harvey Harris died at his home, three miles northeast of Morning Sun on Monday morning, December 16, 1907, aged 90 years, 2 months, and 25 days. He came to Iowa in the fall of 1851, purchased a farm, to which he with his family returned early in the spring following and where he made his home until death called him. He was married to Eliza A. Orr, November 1st, 1838. To them were born eight children, of whom six are living: Harriet, Thomas, Joseph, Rachel, Newton and George. Eugene died May 16th, 1859, and Isaac August 19, 1881. Rachel has always lived at the old home. The rest of the children live in the vicinity of Morning Sun and all were present at the funeral. There are twenty-four grandchildren, all being present but four. There are twelve great-grandchildren. From the time he was a little child on down through all these years, he was noted for his energy and industry. Less than a year ago he enjoyed good health. In June he suffered from an attack of pneumonia, from which he did not fully regain his strength, but again went to his work as usual. About two months ago he had a slight stroke of paralysis, followed by another four days before his death from which he did not rally. He was apparently conscious until the last and being questioned both before and during his sickness said he was ready to go and expressed his desire to go and be with his companion, who died January 30, 1895 aged nearly 75 years. The funeral was held at Concord church on Wednesday, December 18, 1907, at 11 o'clock, conducted by Reverend William Mackay of Morning Sun The pallbearers were Ed Joy of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and Eugene Lee, Isaac and George Harris and Earl Horn, his grandsons. The interment was at Concord cemetery.
