Description	:	Obituary Harvey J. Vermeer, 89, of Sioux Center, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital. Memorial Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Reformed Church of Sioux Center with the Rev. David Sikkema officiating. Interment will be held prior to the service in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Sioux Center. A prayer service will be held at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Harvey Vermeer was born Feb. 9, 1918 to Jacob H. and Anna (Huitink) Vermeer in Sioux Center. He was raised in Sioux County and received his education through the 12th grade at Sioux Center High School. He also attended National Business College in Sioux City for one year. Harvey married Johanna H. Vermeer on June 25, 1941, in a garden ceremony at the bride's farm home. Harvey worked for the Sioux City Tribune and several other places as a bookkeeper. He also owned and managed Vermeer Self Serve grocery store in Sioux Center for several years. Harvey was a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center where he was active in Men's Fellowship group and the Adult Choir. He also enjoyed singing bass with the Vermeer quartet. For several years Harvey made plaques for those who made their profession of faith. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Sioux Center Christian School. In his early life he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He always enjoyed playing cards and table games with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed visits from his children and grandchildren. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Jacklin Hale Vermeer; his sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and George Addison of Ft. Walton Beach.
