The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 13 at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Patrick Sparling officiating. Interment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. Read More	Harvey LaVern Mueller, 94, died Sunday, August 10, 2014, at his home at Cottonwood House in Columbus, Nebraska. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 13 at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Patrick Sparling officiating. Interment will be in the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Harvey LaVern Mueller was born March 12, 1920, in Columbus, Nebraska, to Adolph and Mary (Schutt) Mueller. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Harvey attended Platte County District #10 Grade School. At the age of 3, Harvey received his first toy truck. When he was 8 he began riding in the truck with his father to Omaha, and at the age of 15 (without a driver’s license), started making long hauls on his own, hauling cattle and grain around the country during the Great Depression. Harvey took over the family farm and combine business at the age of 18 when his father passed away. On September 24, 1941, Harvey was united in marriage to Erna Klug at St. John’s Lutheran Church – Shell Creek. Harvey and Erna were married for 69 years. Harvey owned Mueller Transfer & Feed, was a regional manager for Sweet Lassy Feed, and drove truck for Land O’ Lakes for several years. He retired from driving in 1988 with a clean accident record. Harvey kept busy during his retirement years by working for Gass Haney Funeral Home for over a decade, and working in his own woodworking shop where he made a variety of items including picture frames, toys, furniture and cabinetry. Harvey also enjoyed photography and took many wedding and special occasion photos in the 50’s and early 60’s that he processed and developed in his own dark room. In 2006 Harvey was honored with the Golden Achievement Award from the American Truck Historical Society. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and throughout the years held various positions in the church. In Harvey’s own words – “Keep on truckin”.
