Inurnment, with military rites by the John J. Peters American Legion Post No. 159, Hoven, SD, follows at the Church Cemetery. Harvey Louis Baus, son of Cecilia (Schaefer) and William L. Baus, was near Hoven in Walworth County on April 22, 1929. He was raised near Hoven and attended St. Bernard’s Catholic School. Harvey worked as a mechanic for Allie Hericks in 1945-46 and then worked for Leonard Frost at Frost Chevrolet from 1947-1951. Harvey served his country in the United States Army, being inducted July 13, 1951. He spent five months of his enlistment in Germany. Harvey married Agnes Binfet at Onaka, SD on February 14, 1952. He was honorably discharged on June 19, 1953 and returned to Hoven. He resumed working for Leonard Frost until 1962. Harvey then established his own business, Baus Repair and Body Shop. He had a natural ability to fix cars and trucks. He was also gifted at restoring old cars and found doing so relaxing. Harvey belonged to the Catholic Order of Foresters and was a member of the Hoven American Legion Post for over 55 years. Harvey resided at the Bowdle Nursing Home since January 18, 2014. Harvey is survived by three daughters: Janet (Jerry) Hartung, Tammy Baus and Rhonda (Mike) Heilman; three brothers: Jim (Eileen) Baus, Michael “Billy” (Jeanne) Baus and Brendon (Penny) Baus; two sisters: Charlotte Luettgen and LuAnn Goetz; eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Agnes, on February 28, 2017, his father on July 1, 1968, his mother on March 28, 1994, his son (Durran), three sisters (Evelyn Poerter, Patricia Reding, and Jocelyn Heintzman) and two brothers (Hugh and Sydney).
