Closed casket visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Michelle D. Witherspoon officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery. She was born Sept. 26, 1916, in Sterling to Alice B. and Harry D. Alford. She graduated from Sterling High School in 1935. She played the violin in the school orchestra and served as Worthy Advisor in the Order of Rainbow for Girls. After high school, she worked at Commercial Savings Bank in Sterling from 1936 to 1946. She met her husband, Roger Lee Parsons, in high school but didn't start dating him until she was working at the bank and he worked for another bank in town, Security State Bank. After Roger returned home from active duty in the U.S. Navy, they were married in Faulds Chapel at the Presbyterian Church on May 20, 1945. Virgil, their son, was born in 1949 and Roger was soon called back to service in the Korean War. After his return, their daughter, Judy, was born in 1952. Billie was a stay-at-home mom who was very interested in her children's activities. Her home was always open and everyone felt welcomed by her generous hospitality. She was well-known for her delicious Christmas cookies and popcorn balls that were delivered to friends every year. She had a beautiful flowerbed in the front of her home. Billie was an avid golfer and she belonged to the Sterling Country Club for over 50 years. She won many trophies during her golfing career. She was a CU Buff fan and had season tickets for many years. Billie was often seen around Sterling driving her car with the CU Buff license plates. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sterling, a member of the Order of Eastern Star, and served for many years as the Mother Advisor for the Order of Rainbow for Girls. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and played cards twice a month with special friends. Billie is survived by her children, Virgil Parsons and wife Ingrid of Fort Collins, Judy Fitzpatrick and husband Chuck of Greeley; five grandchildren, Grant Parsons and wife Elizabeth of Denver, Abby Parsons of Denver, Marcie Fitzpatrick of Tucson, Arz., Ryan Fitzpatrick and wife Sarah of Loveland, and Megan Wolf and husband Marc of Sterling; a great-grandson, Blake Parsons of Denver; and a great-granddaughter who is due to be born in April. Billie is also survived by her caregivers who became part of her family, Kaleen Ruth, Jamie Rowe, Ann Blickhahn, Jeanette Baker, Rhonda Mullins, Shaleen Brunkhardt and Jessie Kurth, and by her best friend of 89 years, Ruth Dawson, and special friends, Beth Peterson Gagg and Jackie Donnelly. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Roger Lee Parsons; and siblings Owen Yenne, Ozro Yenne and Mildred Reifsneider. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church.
