EDD THOMAS Mrs. Hattie Belle Thomas, 72 of Fries, widow of the late Edd Thomas, Galax, died in an Abingdon Hospital Saturday night, June 5. Mrs. Thomas, who was a Miss Johnson before her first marriage, was formerly the wife of the late George K. Bourne, prominent Fries citizen and businessman. She married Mr. Thomas after the death of Mr. Bourne. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Fries. Surviving are a brother, Charles Johnson, Norwichtown, Conn., three sisters, Mrs. John Urps, Bristol, Va., Mrs. Henry Nester and Miss Mollie Johnson, both of Wyndale. Funeral services were held at the Fries Methodist Church Monday at 2:00 p.m. by Dr. D.B. Cooper. The church choir sang "Beautiful Isle," "Abide With Me" and "It Is Well With My Soul." Interment, under direction of Campbell Funeral home, Abingdon, was in the Fries cemetery. Pallbearers were N.W. Hester, O.E. Moore, Ray Kane, Roscoe Rector, French Pack and Early Baker. Flowers were carried by neighbors and friends of Mrs. Thomas, who lived in her home in Blairtown.
