At the time of her passing, on Sunday morning, Dec. 11 she had lived to be 87 years two months and 11days, having lived through the covered wagon days into the jet age. She was married to William (Bud) King on Nov. 5, 1890. To this union four sons were born, Ernest and Clayton of Oneida, Roy Lester of Goff and Gale William of Sabetha. Mr. and Mrs. King began their married life on a farm near Woodlawn where they lived until 1918 when they moved to their present home in Woodlawn, where they were privileged to celebrate their 64th anniversary. Mr. King passed away on March 15, 1954, since that time Mrs. King has been able to live alone and take care of herself, with frequent visits to her children. As a young girl, she professed her faith in Christ and United with the Methodist church at Maple Ridge. After moving to Woodlawn she was an active worker in the Baptist church as long as she was able. Mrs. King manifested her deep faith in Christ by her life of service in her home, church, school and community. She served as a members of the school board in Gage district for many years. Mrs. King maintained her interest in world affairs through her radio and daily papers. Grandma King as she was familiarly called by Woodlawn school children, was their friend at all times and interested in all their activities. Grandma King made piecing quilts and raising flowers her hobbies. All of her children as well as the grandchildren and great grandchildren each have a quilt or more of her handiwork. Much of her handwork went into the Mission boxes also. She enjoyed preparing bouquets or plants each Sunday for the church. Left to mourn her death besides her four sons are seven grandchildren: Mrs. Rosie Woolsencroft, Centralia; Rex King, Goff, Charles B. King, Kansas City, Glen King, Sparta, Mo., Mrs. Lahoma Dickey, Livermore, Calif., Roy Dale King of Atchison and Melvin King with the Naval forces in Japan. Nineteen great grandchildren and many friends. Mrs. King expressed her appreciation many times for the faithful and regular visits of her sons and their wives also the calls of old friends. Memorial services were held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Woodlawn Baptist church, her pastor Rev. LeRoy Davis of Wetmore officiating. Favorite hymns, "Beyond The Sunset" and "Good Night and Good Morning" were sung by Mrs. Earl Reed and Mrs. Charles Schaible. Casketbearers were Oscar Pendland, Bud Thompson, Jake Humphrey, Ray Reed and Harvey Rokey. Interment was made at the Woodlawn cemetery. The Popkess Mortuary of Sabetha had charge of the services.
