Description	:	Mrs. Clarence J. Snyder, wife of a well-known farmer residing twelve miles south of Berthold, died Friday morning from injuries received when the car in which she was riding tipped over near Des Lacs the evening previous. The Snyder family were returning home late in the evening after attending the farmers' meeting in Minot, and as they were ascending the big hill just west of Des Lacs the engine and the car started to back down the hill. Snyder, wife of a well-known farmer residing twelve miles south of Berthold, died Friday morning from injuries received when the car in which she was riding tipped over near Des Lacs the evening previous. The Snyder family were returning home late in the evening after attending the farmers' meeting in Minot, and as they were ascending the big hill just west of Des Lacs the engine and the car started to back down the hill. Mr. Snyder applied the brakes but they failed to hold. Owing to the darkness he could not see the road and plunged down the steep embankment at the foot of the hill. As the car started to tip Mrs. Snyder attempted to protect her daughter who was asleep in the rear seat. The mother instinct to save her little ones brought death to herself. She was pinned under the heavy car with the back of the seat resting across her abdomen. Mr. Snyder and their eldest son, Lee, were also caught under the car but neither suffered any serious injuries. Several neighbors were following close behind, and with their assistance Mrs. Snyder was extricated and taken to Des Lacs. After everything for her had been done she passed off into a comfortable sleep which lasted for several hours. Upon awakening she informed her husband that she was feeling comfortable, but shortly after she bad a sinking spell and passed away within a few minutes. It is believed that a blood vessel gave way suddenly. Mrs. Snyder, whose maiden name was Addie Pauline Nichols, was born in West Union, Ia., in 1869. On Nov. 17, 1892 she became the bride of Mr. Clarence J. Snyder. They resided in Lake county, Ia., until 1906 when they established residence on a homestead 12 miles southwest of Berthold which has since been their home. Mrs. Snyder was highly esteemed by her many acquaintances for her readiness to extend aid to her neighbors when necessary, and her ever cheerful and happy disposition. She was a great lover of home and was happiest when she had her children gathered about her. There are left to mourn her tragic death beside the husband, nine children, Mrs. Henry Braucher, Lee, Ben, Helen, Mary, Max, Arthur, Julia and Barbara; father, Mr. J. D. Nichols; one brother, Chas. Nichols; four sisters, Mrs. Laura Holliday, Mrs. Alma Faaberg, all of Berthold; Mrs. Maud Chapman, of .Spencer, Ia., Mrs. Grace Newton, Dickens, Ia. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Congregational church, Rev. Keedy officiating, and conducted by Undertaker E. A. Emanuel.
