Hattie Miller Wright of Florien was 80. Known in the parish as "Miss Hattie", the Florien native was loved by all. She was born on April 8, 1899 in Florien, to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Miller. A dedicated school teacher, Miss Hattie emphasized education to students all over the parish for 40 years. She joined the Florien First Baptist Church in 1917, and from then on was a faithful member. She was also an active member of the Order of Eastern Star for 60 years. Anyone who knew Miss Hattie well, knew that she loved to write and share her thoughts and ideas with others. Her article, which was a favorite in the INDEX for years, was titled "Florien News". She enjoyed keeping up with her friends, and she also enjoyed penning poetry. Married to Harmon Wright, Miss Hattie had been a widow for 20 years. The couple was childless. Children, former students, and friends in the community made her life richer by the many visits, and hours spent sharing with the understanding lady. Survivors include a brother, Arvil D. Miller of Florien; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Florien First Baptist Church, Monday, March 17, at 2 p.m. Officiating were the Rev. Delman Rogers, pastor, and the Rev. Avon Cavanaugh. Burial was in the Prospect Cemetery, under the direction of the Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers were Ralph Matthews, Clifton Davis, Elwyn Whittington, Glenn Lilly, Kenneth Miller, and Benny Nicholson.
