A Pitt County native, Mr. Laughinghouse graduated from Greenville High School in May 1942. He worked in the Newport News Shipyard before enlisting in the United States Navy in January 1943. He was assigned to the Landing Corps Infantry (LCI) 510 and fought bravely during the Normandy Beach Invasion in June 1944. Read More	Haywood Dail Laughinghouse, Jr., son of the late Mr. Haywood Dail Laughinghouse, Sr., and Mrs. Margaret "Peggy" Jenkins Laughinghouse, passed away on December 12, 2016. A Pitt County native, Mr. Laughinghouse graduated from Greenville High School in May 1942. He worked in the Newport News Shipyard before enlisting in the United States Navy in January 1943. He was assigned to the Landing Corps Infantry (LCI) 510 and fought bravely during the Normandy Beach Invasion in June 1944. He remained in Europe with the LCI 510 until his return to the United States in December 1944. He was reassigned to the Underwater Demolition Team (UDT) in January 1945 and served in the Pacific until the war ended. Like others of the greatest generation, he served his country with pride and loyalty. Following his discharge in September 1945, Mr. Laughinghouse went to work in the tobacco industry. He retired from his position of Senior Vice President at AC Monk and Company, Inc. in May 1991. During his 45 year tenure, Mr. Laughinghouse oversaw operations for the company in the United States, South Korea, Brazil, Argentina and other countries throughout the world. Mr. Laughinghouse was a life-long parishioner of Saint Peter's Catholic Church. A true servant of God and His people, Mr. Laughinghouse was active with the Knights of Columbus, the local soup kitchen, and various other organizations. In 2010, he was recognized by the Pitt County Council on Aging for his 25 years of dedicated service to the Meals on Wheels program. His generosity and compassion will be remembered by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Minnie Mae Laughinghouse and infant daughter, Catherine; grandson: Jackson Laughinghouse; granddaughter: Lacy Laughinghouse, and daughter-in-law Jennifer Laughinghouse.
