FRED SPAR, 67 Funeral services for Mrs. Fred Spar, 67, of Orchard were conducted Friday morning, July 24 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Orchard with the pastor, the Rev. Alvin H. Smith, officiating. Burial was in the Orchard Cemetery. Mrs. Spar died July 21 at a Norfolk Hospital, about five hours after suffering a heart attack. The attack occurred when she was on the way to Norfolk on buisness. Hazel Belle Butterfield was born Feb. 9. 1897, in Antelope County, a daughter of Mr and Mrs. F.E. Butterfield. She grew to womanhood in the Walnut community. She was married to Fred Spar on Feb. 22, 1917, at the home of her parents. The Rev. Herman of Friend officiated. Four children were born to them. The couple first made their home at Walnut, lived briefly near Plainview, then moved to north of Orchard in 1919. Later they moved to Meadow Grove, then to Battle Creek in 1936. In 1941 they moved to Orchard which has since been their home. Mrs. Spar was baptized in the United Brethren Church at Walnut as an infant. She and her husband were active in the church at Walnut and other places where they made their home. She was a member of the Orchard EUB Adult Ladies Bible class and the Women's Society of World Service of the church. Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Clay Osborn of Battle Creek and Mrs. Clyde Horrocks of Meadow Grove; a son Edwin of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; six sisters, Mrs. Chloe Smith of Tilden, Mrs. Leafa Berner of Norfolk, Mrs. Laura Phillips of Lincoln, Mrs. Elsie Hildreth, Mrs. Eunice Mitteis and Mrs. Thelma Boelter, all of Verdigre; and two brothers, Edwin of Orchard and Floyd of Atkinson. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter, Gladys Ada. Butterfield of Walnut and Mr. Fred G. Spar, son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Spar of Venus, Nebr., were united in the holy bonds of matrimony. Rev. W.F. Herman, pastor of the United Brehren church of Friend, Nebr. officiating. After which a few of the most intimate friends and relatives sat down to a sumptous wedding feast. The young couple received a number of nice expensive presents. The bride is one of the popular young ladies of Walnut and has lived there all her life. The groom is an industrious young man, who has lived near Venus for the past eight years. The newly married couple will go to housekeeping on her father's farm about April 1st in the new house that is to be built for them.
