Read More	Hazel Effie Johnson was born to George and Mattie Langford on November 22, 1893 at Axtell, Kas., in Marshall county. She passed away at the Fairview Manor Nursing Home in Fairmont on Sunday, March 13, 1994, at the age of 100 years, 3 months and 21 days. Hazel attended a country school near Axtell, Ks., and later went to the school in town. Her mother passed away while Hazel was quite young and the family was separated, with Hazel moving to Lushton to make her home with her aunt, Mrs. Roy Manson. It was near Lushton that Hazel grew to womanhood. She attended the United Brethren church and was baptized there. On January 20, 1915, she was united in marriage to Ernest Johnson of Lushton. They were married at Cheyenne, Wy., in the courthouse. One son, Forrest, blessed this marriage. Following their marriage, they lived on farms north of Grafton and near Lushton. In 1923, they moved to the Fairmont area, where Ernest preceded her in death in 1977. Hazel loved to bake pies and rolls and for many years, took this talent and worked for several Fairmont cafes. In her spare time, she often made and took these pies to other families and friends. She will always be remembered for the joy that she brought to all those who received her loving cards and letters. She took great pride in always looking the part of the "lady" she was. Each day was begun in a pretty dress, topped off with attractive and appropriate jewelry that she loved to wear. Her later years were spent at the Fairview Manor, where she could be seen going from room to room visiting with others and greeting visitors to the home. Hazel was a member of the Fairmont Community Church and also held memberships with the Royal Neighbor Lodge and the Rebekah Lodge of many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mattie Langford; a sister, Bernice; and a brother, Jay Langford of Las Vegas, Nv. She is survived by her son, Forrest and his wife, Jeanette of Ashland; one granddaughter, Marcia Anderson of Omaha; and by great-grandchildren, David Anderson, Rick Anderson and Kathy Anderson. Funeral services were conducted from the Fairmont Community Church at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 16, with the Rev. Tony Woodward officiating. Mrs. Marvin Swartz provided organ music prior to and following the services. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bauer sang special selections of "Whispering Hope" and "Under His Wings." Those serving as pallbearers were: John Anderson Jr., Gene Nichols, Wade L. Ronne, Francis D. Rose, Harold Smith and Marvin Swartz. Interment was in the Fairmont Public Cemetery.
