Hazel was born on April 17, 1917, the daughter of Robert Guy and Josephine Brodsky Moodie of Lee County, Iowa. She attended the neighboring one-room schoolhouse and was a member of String Prairie Catholic Church. Hazel graduated from Waterville High School and then attended St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Ottumwa. She married Winford A. Fisher on August 17, 1936. He preceded her in death on July 23, 1999. She worked at St. Joseph Hospital and Ottumwa Hospital in the EDG department. She was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation, Altar and Rosary Society, and Ottumwa Regional Health Center Auxiliary. Hazel was a devoted wife and mother. She was an avid bridge player. Surviving are two sons, Carl Robert Fisher of Patterson, CA and Thomas Fisher of Ottumwa; two daughters, Carolyn(Howard)Rogers of Cascade, IA and Andrea(George Hopkins)Dalbey of Chillicothe; five grandchildren, Bernie(Pete)Merchlewitz, Michael(Tien)Rogers, David(Anne)Dalbey, Mark(Pennie)Dalbey and Chris(Tracy Dalbey; 8 great grandchildren, Lacy, Bryce and Matt Dalbey, Sean Merchlewitz, Kevin and Jaered Rogers, Daniel and Sarah Dalbey; 8 step great grandchildren, Jana, Jake and Josh Merchlewitz, Austin, Aaron and Andrew Huff, Josh and Hunter Parker; 4 step great great grandchildren, Addison, Kendayl and Noah and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Eloise Rosie, Wilma Ellingston and Norma Lutrz; and three brothers, Hugh, Carl and Roger Moodie. Funeral Mass will be 1 pm Thursday at St. Mary of the Visitation with Father Bernie Weir presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation begins at 11 am Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home. A Christian Wake service will be held at 6 pm Wednesday followed by family visitation until 8 pm. Memorials may be made to St. Mary of the Visitation or Sylvan Woods Care Fund.
