Jeffords, 88, a retired school teacher, Levy County School Board, entered peacefully into Heaven with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a lengthy illness on March 8, 2015. Hazel was born in High Springs, FL, on April 15th, 1926 to the late W.T. Heddlesten & Opal O'Steen Heddlesten. She was the granddaughter of the late Marion A. Hazel was born in High Springs, FL, on April 15th, 1926 to the late W.T. Heddlesten & Opal O'Steen Heddlesten. She was the granddaughter of the late Marion A. O'Steen & Jane Cone O'Steen, who homesteaded in the Forest Grove area in 1883. Hazel married her loving husband, Earl R. Jeffords on May 16th, 1944. They were married for 57 years until his death in 2001. She was also predeceased by her brother, O'Steen Heddlesten. After her retirement in 1994, she and Mr. Jeffords moved to Tallahassee, Fl. At age 40, she fulfilled a lifelong dream of attending college, eventually earning a Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in Education with honors, from the University of Florida. While at UF she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Lambda Theta, & the American Mensa Society. During her employment with the Levy County School Board, she taught English and Reading, which brought her great pleasure. She also served as the coordinator of the special needs population. Mrs. Jeffords was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Tallahassee. She was a former member of St. Madeleine Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic minister. Hazel, aka "Mimi", was a sweet, caring, generous, wise, loving, wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed reading, making ceramics and researching her family history. She is survived by her daughter, Anita Jeffords Gay, son-in-law Walter Byron Gay, grandson Michael Kevin Gay & wife Marcie, & great grandson Matthew Earl Gay, all of Tallahassee, one nephew, Neil Heddlesten of Indiana. Grandson Michael Kevin Gay conducted the funeral service at Forest Grove Cemetery on Friday, March 13, 2015. Burial arrangements were under the care of Abbey Funeral Home, Tallahassee, FL.
