Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 4, 2013 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown with Father Michael Wensing as celebrant. Danielle Holmquist-Holida will be the organist with the Immaculate Conception Funeral Choir. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown. Hazel Ann Matteson was born August 31, 1925 to Karl and Edna (Schneider) Hopf in Olivet, South Dakota. She grew up in the Artesian and Mitchell, South Dakota areas and graduated high school from Burbank, South Dakota in 1943. Hazel then attended Dakota Wesleyan College in Mitchell and then graduated from Bartron School of Nursing in Watertown in 1946 earning a Registered Nurse degree. She married Glen Matteson on October 24, 1946 at the Immaculate Conception Church rectory in Watertown. In her early years she was employed at Bartron Hospital and later at Memorial Hospital and Prairie Lakes Hospital for 20 years. She worked as an RN in the medical, surgical and extended care units. After retirement, Hazel volunteered at a day care center, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed bowling, walking, putting puzzles together, going on bus trips, shopping, going to rummage sales, and also growing flowers, vegetables, and canning. Hazel is survived by her children, Sheila (Paul) Day of Watertown, Jenifer (Kevin) Kranz of Kranzburg, Laurie (Randy) Resick of Watertown, and Brenda (John) Paulson of Watertown; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and a lifelong friend, Dee Kick of Watertown. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glen on July 10, 1992; her son, Michael; her granddaughter, Tana Paulson; two brothers; and four sisters.
