Description	:	Hazel's parents were Silas Freeman and Georgia Anna (EWING)CURTIS. Hazel Irene (Curtis) Smith, (born on a beautiful Friday), was the fourth of seven children, 2 boys and 5 girls. She was the second to be born on her parents "Lone Chimney Homestead", located deep in the mountains near Lake George, Colorado. Hazel Irene (Curtis) Smith, (born on a beautiful Friday), was the fourth of seven children, 2 boys and 5 girls. She was the second to be born on her parents "Lone Chimney Homestead", located deep in the mountains near Lake George, Colorado. Two older siblings were born in Kansas before the family moved to Colorado. They used to have to hike to school except for during the winter when the snow was on the ground. Then their father Silas would hitch up the team to the wagon and take them to and fro. They played with the neighboring kids down the road (a couple miles or so?) The girls would make homemade donuts for refreshments for the monthly dances held on the various ranches. Hazel met James Talbert SMITH and they got married on July 12, 1928 in Colorado Springs, El Paso county. They were divorced on September 15, 1972. She was a devoted wife and homemaker, raising four daughters and two boys. Her first born son died in 1972. All her other children were living at the time of her death. On Monday, August 13, 1990, Hazel, died of cancer (age 78 yrs. 8 mo. 23 days) on yet another Friday. Services were held Aug. 17, 1990 at Blunt Mortuary Chapel. Pallbearers were Brett Schoon, Jerry Davis, Walter Ragains, Ron Davis, Jeff Moreland and Charles Harris. "Thank You!" to David Rasmussen for his many photographs submitted as part of an area get-together at Fairview Cemetery in Colorado Springs on April 25, 2009.
