GRUBBS Hazel Irene Grubbs, daughter of Otie and Edith Hewitt was born in Leando on March 13, 1908 and departed this life Sunday, July 21 at the Van Buren County Memorial hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 55. On August 23, 1928, she was united in marriage to Berdott Grubbs at Keosauqua. Mrs. Grubbs was a life-long member of the Methodist church. For many years, she and her family have operated the Douds-Leando Telephone exchange and she was active in the work of the telephone office and her home until entering the hospital. Surviving are her husband; their son, Gary; her mother, Mrs. Edith Plowman and one granddaughter, Linda Grubbs, all of Douds; four step-sisters, Mrs. Eloise Dawson of Davenport, Mrs. Edna Carson and Mrs. Opal Munson of New Orleans, La. and Mrs. LaVerne Goslin of Mendota, Ill; two step-brothers, Glen Plowman of Chehalis, Wash. and Stanley Plowman of Atlanta, Ga.; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, a sister, Clara and her step-father. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 23 at 2 p.m. at the Douds Christ Methodist church, with the pastor, Rev. G.
